How the thresholds are set & data sources
The non-lucrative visa (NLV) requires proving means of 400% of the IPREM for the main applicant plus 100% of the IPREM per additional family member. The IPREM is frozen at €600/month for 2026 (no new state budget has updated it since 2023), so the NLV threshold is €2,400/month (€28,800/year) for one person, plus €600/month (€7,200/year) per dependent. The NLV can also be met with savings/assets covering the annual amount, not only monthly income.
The digital nomad visa (DNV) requires 200% of the SMI (Spain's minimum wage) for the main applicant, plus 75% of the SMI for the first family member and 25% for each additional one. The 2026 SMI is €17,094/year (€1,221 × 14 payments, Real Decreto 126/2026). We compute the DNV threshold from the annual SMI, giving about €2,849/month for one applicant — the figure most Spanish immigration firms use for 2026. Consulates derive it from the SMI rather than a fixed number, so a small variation (some cite ~€2,442 using monthly SMI × 2) is possible; the DNV requires recurring salaried or freelance income, not a one-off balance.

Is the requirement per person or per family?
Per household: a base amount for the main applicant plus a set percentage for each family member joining you. Add everyone who's applying with you.
Can I use savings instead of a salary?
For the non-lucrative visa, yes — you can prove means with savings or assets covering the annual amount. The digital nomad visa needs recurring work income, though; a lump sum alone won't qualify.
Why do I see slightly different euro figures elsewhere?
The requirements are set as percentages of the IPREM and SMI, and the euro figures are derived from them — so different sources round or annualise slightly differently, especially for the digital nomad visa. We show the current 2026 basis and note the variation.
Does clearing the income mean I'm approved?
