How much tax refund will I get? 2026 calculator

Estimate whether you get money back or owe — with the 2026 federal tables, your Child Tax Credit and EITC, and the right result if you file with an ITIN. Free, no signup. Federal only.

Estimate your refund

How it's calculated

Estimates FEDERAL tax only. Your actual refund depends on your full return (deductions, other income, exact withholding) and excludes any state refund. It's an educational estimate, not your return.

Methodology & data sources

The calculator estimates your 2026 federal tax by applying the IRS brackets (Rev. Proc. 2025-32) to your income minus the standard deduction (single $16,100 · joint $32,200 · head of household $24,150). It then subtracts your credits: the Child Tax Credit (up to $2,200 per child, up to $1,700 refundable), the EITC by income and number of children, and the $500 Credit for Other Dependents — separating the refundable part (which adds to your refund) from the non-refundable part (which only reduces what you owe). It compares the tax you actually owe after credits with what was withheld during the year: withheld more, the difference is your refund; withheld less, that's what you owe. Select ITIN and we apply the post-OBBB rules (no Child Tax Credit or EITC, but the $500 Credit for Other Dependents). If you don't know your withholding, we estimate it from standard withholding. It's an educational, federal-only estimate; our Freshness Keeper checks these parameters against the IRS each year.

Parameters verified as of July 17, 2026 against the IRS (Rev. Proc. 2025-32) · Educational estimate, not tax advice.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know how much I'll get back?

Refund = withheld − what you actually owe + refundable credits. The calculator estimates it with the 2026 tables.

Do I get a refund with an ITIN?

Yes, for what was over-withheld — but with an ITIN the Child Tax Credit and EITC don't apply; the $500 Credit for Other Dependents does. The tool adjusts when you pick ITIN.

Where do I find my withholding?

On your paystub ("Federal Income Tax" line) or your W-2, box 2. No number? Leave it blank and we'll estimate.

Does it include a state refund?

No — federal only. Many states have their own separate refund.
