Methodology & data sources

This checker computes each visa's threshold as a multiple of Colombia's legal monthly minimum wage (SMMLV), exactly as Resolución 5477 de 2022 defines the income tests: 3× SMMLV for the V Digital Nomad and M Pensionado, 10× SMMLV for the M Rentista, and a company-level test of 100× SMMLV average monthly income for the M Trabajador. The 2026 SMMLV we use is COP 1,750,905 — the value fixed by transitional Decreto 0159 de 2026 after the Consejo de Estado suspended the original wage decree (suspension confirmed April 14, 2026; final judgment pending, which is why we surface the litigation status in every result). Fees come from Resolución 3969 de 2026, in force since April 1, 2026: USD 56 study fee, USD 138 issuance (V-type), USD 204 issuance (M-type). Currency conversion uses the mid-market rate of COP 3,591 and USD 1.142 per EUR captured July 17, 2026 — consulates apply their own rates, so treat USD/EUR figures as estimates and the COP figure as the requirement. We re-verify this page's data against the Cancillería's normograma on a scheduled cycle; the stamp below shows the last verification date.

Frequently asked questions

How much income do I need for Colombia's digital nomad visa in 2026?

3× SMMLV = COP 5,252,715/month (~USD 1,463 at mid-July 2026 rates), shown across your last 3 months of bank statements, earned from clients or an employer outside Colombia.

Can my income vary month to month?

The Cancillería reviews your last 3 months (nomad) or 6 months (rentista/worker company) of statements. Averages matter — one strong month doesn't cure two weak ones. When in doubt, wait until three consecutive qualifying months.

Why might these thresholds change during 2026?

The 2026 minimum wage decree is under litigation at the Consejo de Estado. The transitional decree holds COP 1,750,905 for now; a final ruling could revise it — and every SMMLV-linked visa threshold with it. We track the docket and update this page when anything moves.

Do I also need health insurance?

Yes — a policy covering illness, accidents, maternity, hospitalization and repatriation in Colombia for the visa's duration. Nomad-style policies (e.g., SafetyWing) are commonly used for the V Nómada.
