Thresholds are multiples of the minimum wage
Most Colombian visa income requirements are expressed as a multiple of the monthly minimum wage (SMMLV). For example, the digital-nomad visa asks for income around 3× the minimum wage per month; the pensioner and rentista visas have their own multiples. Because they're pegged to the wage, the peso amount changes each year with it.
2026 note: Colombia's 2026 minimum-wage decree is under litigation — the original decree was suspended and a transitional figure applies until a final ruling. The multiples are stable, but the exact peso threshold could shift if the court rules differently. Always confirm the current figure before applying.
The main visa types
- V — Digital Nomad — for remote workers/freelancers with foreign income, around 3× the minimum wage.
- M — Pensioner (Migrante) — proof of a lifetime pension at a set multiple.
- Rentista — stable passive income at a set multiple.
- Worker — a Colombian employment contract.
