How much does it really cost to move to another country?

Not just the shipping quote — the whole thing: flights, rental entry costs, visa fees, apostilles and translations, insurance, setup. Pick your corridor and get an honest, itemized range. No site on the internet adds these up for you; this one does.

Methodology & data sources

Every line item is a low–high range built from sourced 2025-2026 data, assembled per corridor on July 17, 2026: shipping from mover indices and corridor guides (Sirelo, MoveHub, Mobbit, Freightos), flights from route-level fare data (Kayak/momondo, low vs. high season), rents from portal market reports (Idealista June 2026, Numbeo city pages, Inmuebles24, Ciencuadras), rental-entry rules from each country's actual law and practice (Spain's fianza system and the 2023 Ley de Vivienda agency-fee change; Colombia's Ley 820 deposit ban and póliza system; Mexico's aval/póliza jurídica), documents from official apostille tariffs (US State Dept, Cancillería de Colombia, Mexican states) and sworn-translation market rates, and insurance from published 2026 pricing (SafetyWing, visa-compliant Spanish insurers, Colombian EPS/prepagada, IMSS). We show ranges instead of false-precision single numbers because that's what the data supports; the biggest lines (shipping, rental entry) genuinely vary 2-3× by provider and neighborhood. Data is re-verified on a scheduled cycle — the stamp shows the last pass.

Frequently asked questions

What's the single most underestimated cost?

Rental entry. Spain takes 2-4 months of rent upfront; Mexico wants deposits plus a póliza jurídica or aval; Colombia's law bans cash deposits but the market answers with pólizas and guarantee requirements for foreigners. It routinely exceeds the flight and visa combined.

Should I ship my furniture or sell it?

Run both numbers. A shared container on an intercontinental lane costs $1,500-5,000 — often more than refurnishing locally in Colombia or Mexico ($1,500-5,000 baseline), and about the same as basic furnishing in Spain. Suitcases-only is the honest default for 1-bedroom households.

Are visa fees per person?

Yes — each adult applies (and pays) separately, and document bundles (apostilles + translations) largely repeat per applicant. Our calculator multiplies fees per adult; children's derivative applications vary by country and are not included in v1.

What about moving with pets?

Budget $150-1,200+ per pet depending on the corridor: vet certificates, government endorsements, airline fees. Corridors that require a rabies titer test (like Colombia → EU) cost more and need ~4 months of lead time.
