A realistic relocation budget goes well beyond flights and a shipping container. Itemize these:

- Flights — for you, family and pets.
- Visa and immigration fees — plus apostilles and certified translations.
- Housing setup — deposit, first/last month, agency fee, furniture.
- Health insurance — often required for the visa itself.
- A landing buffer — weeks of living costs before income starts.
Key point: costs vary sharply by corridor. A US→Mexico move and a Colombia→Spain move have very different shipping, visa and setup totals — budget by your specific route.
Where the money really goes
For most corridors the largest lines are shipping and the housing setup (deposits plus agency fees), not the flights. Immigration paperwork — visa fees, apostilles, translations — adds up quietly and is easy to underestimate.
