Aguinaldo in Mexico 2026: how much you're owed and when

The aguinaldo is a legal right, not a bonus your employer can skip. Here's the minimum, how it's prorated, what's tax-exempt, and the deadline.

The legal minimum: 15 days' salary

Under the Ley Federal del Trabajo, every employee is owed an aguinaldo of at least 15 days of salary per year. Many employers pay more, but 15 days is the floor no one can go below.

Even if you quit: the aguinaldo is prorated for the part of the year you worked. Leaving in June doesn't forfeit it — you're owed the portion you earned.

How the proration works

Your aguinaldo = (15 ÷ 365) × days worked in the year × your daily salary. Someone earning $10,000/month who worked half the year is owed roughly $2,500. The tool does the exact math for your dates and salary.

What's exempt from ISR

The aguinaldo is tax-exempt up to 30 UMA — about $3,519 in 2026 (the UMA is $117.31/day). Anything above that is subject to ISR. For most workers the full aguinaldo, or nearly all of it, falls inside the exemption.

The deadline: December 20

By law it must be paid before December 20. Paying it in January — or not at all — is a violation you can report to PROFEDET. Keep your receipt.
